Tunnel Engineering has undertaken principal inspection and specialist asset inspection services for Transport for London road tunnels managed by Road Management Services, including the Limehouse Link and East India Dock tunnels.
The services have included:
- Planning and undertaking inspections during tunnel closures
- Tunnel principal inspection activities
- Inspection of tunnel-mounted equipment and supporting structures
- Inspection of jet fans, fixings and supporting arrangements
- Assessment of channel nuts, safety chains and structural connections
- Inspection of wall panels and supporting systems
- Inspection of lighting frames and associated structural components
- Identification and categorisation of defects
- Structural assessment of identified concerns
- Prioritisation of remedial and maintenance activities
- Development of inspection and maintenance recommendations
- Preparation of detailed technical reports
- Structural design and assessment support for tunnel infrastructure
The inspections were undertaken within restricted night-time possessions and required detailed planning, efficient site delivery and close coordination with the tunnel operator. The findings were used to establish the condition and structural significance of defects and to support the development of prioritised maintenance strategies for the tunnel assets.
